Goole’s town centre CCTV system commenced in 1999 with the installation of 5 full colour, pan, tilt and zoom cameras located in Pasture Road, Aire Street, Boothferry Road (railway subway and Dunhill Court) and the clocktower roundabout.  A sixth camera was soon added in Wesley Square. (ASDA car park).

Following a successful bid to the Home Office for £155,325 and a partnership with Kingsway School, Howden Town Council and Snaith and Cowick Town Council, further cameras were installed at Fountayne Street, Estcourt Street and Swinefleet Road in Goole and at locations in Snaith and Howden, although with effect from 1st April, 2009 Howden Town Council withdrew from the scheme and equipment was redeployed in Goole.   Snaith and Cowick Town Council withdrew from the scheme in June 2015 and cameras from Snaith have been relocated at South Park, Western Road and Pasture Road/Westfield Avenue. There is also an audio/visual link to Goole police station, which allows the police to view any images monitored by control room staff.

The Victoria Pleasure Ground is also covered by CCTV, which has an audio link.

As part of the Heritage Lottery funded scheme, 2 cameras were installed in West Park near to the main entrance and in the car park. The cost of these cameras was the Council’s match funding element to the almost £1 million acquired from the Big Lottery/Heritage lottery Parks for People programme.  These cameras also have audio facilities, enabling monitoring staff to advise people that they are being monitored.

Cameras provide evidential quality images and are monitored 18 hours a day, 365 days a year by The East Riding of Yorkshire Council at its Bridlington control room, although Goole Town Council remains the data owner as registered with the Information Commissioner.

The operation of the system is monitored by a CCTV Working Party consisting of representatives from Goole Town Council, the public, the business community, police and system provider The East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Please note that in accordance with the Home Office’s Code of Practice, individuals will not be provided with CCTV evidence unless they have reported a matter to the police with regard to criminal cases or their solicitor or insurers in respect of civil proceedings.
